He received his Ph. D Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Houston. Currently, he works at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in the department of Computer Engineering. Mongkol Ekpanyapong received his B.Eng. degree from Chulalongkorn Univerisity, Thailand in 1997, his M.Eng. degree from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 2000, his M.Sc., and his Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2003, and 2006 respectively.

From 1997 to 1998, he was a System Engineer at United Communication Network, Thailand. From 2006 to 2009, he was a Senior Computer Architect at Intel Corporation, USA, Core 2 Architecture design team. He joined the School of Engineering and Technology, Asian Institute of Technology in 2009, where he currently is an Assistant Professor. Rerngwut Choomuang received his B.Eng. degree from Sripatum Univerisity, Thailand, his M.Eng. and D.Eng degrees from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. Also he currently is the head of mechatronics program and he also is an expert and consultant of the Educational Innovation Development Bureau. Siridech Boonsang received his B. Eng degree in electrical engineering (Honor) from the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Electronic Instrumentation System) and Ph.D. in Instrumentation from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), Manchester, UK.

He is currently an assistant professor at the department of electrical engineering, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Bangkok, Thailand. His research interests include Advanced Metrology in HDD process, Instrumentation/electronic engineering, Laser and laser applications, Biomedical photonics, Optical based sensors and applications, Photoacoustic/optoacoustic sensors and applications, and Ultrasound in Biomedical and Non-destructive evaluation (NDE).




Dr. Thavida Maneewan

Title : Researches and Activities in Thailand Robotics

Thavida Maneewarn received her B. Eng degree in Control engineering (1st class honor) from the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) in 1994, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of Washington in 1995 and 2000, respectively. She is currently the Deputy Director of Research, Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO), King Mongkut's University of Techonology Thonburi (KMUTT). Also she is currently the president of Thai Robotic Society (TRS) which is one the most active organization of robotics in Thailand. Her research interests include Haptic Interface, Multiple Mobile Robots, Teleoperation, Analytical Kinematics, Intelligent Control and Nonholonomic Control.

Chaiwat Nuthong graduated with B.Eng (Electrical Engineering) from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in 1996. He completed his M.Sc. Title : Limitation and Challenges for Occluded Face Detection in Real-World Applications

Abstract
      In the present, chance of crime or terrorism occurring is increased. Thief or suspects usually cover their face with helmet, sunglasses or mask to blind their identity while they are committing a crime. The person covering their face should not be allowed to enter the security area. To prevent the crime, an intelligent algorithm for detecting thief or suspects whom cover their face in security area is necessary. This paper presents an overview of limitation and some challenges of existing research concerning occluded face detection in case it is implemented to real-world applications.

Theekapun Charoenpong received his B.Eng degree in electronics engineering from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand, in 2001, M.Eng degree in electronics and information engineering from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand, in 2005 and a D.Eng. degree in Graduate School of Engineering, University of Fukui, Japan, in 2008. Title : An Improvement of Multilateral Control Performance of A Teleoperated Robot Using Kalman-Filter-Based State Observer

Abstract
     Approaches to control haptic sensation have been receiving increased attention. A control system of haptic sensation consists of master and slave robots assembled for the purpose of obtaining a same action of force and motion movements with desired performance. An external force should be sensed quickly after contact with unknown environments.
     This research focuses on the high bandwidth force sensation for haptic transmission with low noise disturbance. A Kalman-filter-based state observer (KFSO) has been designed to estimate action/reaction force of the master and slave robots. The stable control loop can be obtained when a KFSO is implemented as the feedforward control for a disturbance torque compensation loop. Moreover, this paper also deals with the construction of multilateral control with the use of modal space design provided by the calculation of Hadamard matrix.
     With such a robust force control scheme, significant high bandwidth haptic sensing in a multi-bilateral control can be achieved. It is possible to provide high transparency and good perception of the environmental stiffness with multi-robot system. Under noisy conditions, a high performance of the position control and force control can be achieved by applying the proposed KFSO. The simulation results are provided to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithms.

Chowarit Mitsantisuk received the B.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from Thammasat University, Pathumthani, Thailand, in 2004, and the M.Eng. degree in Electrical, Electronics and Information Engineering and D.Eng degree in energy and environment science from the Nagaoka University of Technology, Japan, in 2007 and 2010, respectively. From 2010 to 2012, he was also a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science with Nagaoka University of Technology. Since 2012, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Kasetsart University. His research interests include motion control, force control, human-robot interaction, sensor fusion, advanced medical device and real-world haptics. Dr. Chowarit is a Member of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society. He was the recipient of the IEEE Student Scholarship Award at the 2009 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Control, and Instrumentation from the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society.

Anan Suebsomran received the B.Sc degree in mechanical engineering from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok, (KMUTNB), Thailand, in 1996. He received his M. Eng. and D.Eng degrees in Mechatronics from Asian Institute of Technology, (AIT), Thailand, in 2000 and 2006, respectively. Currently, he works at KMUTNB in the department of teacher training in mechanical engineering. Piyapong Olranthichachat received the B. SCI (Physics) and M. Eng (Electrical Engineering) from Narasuan University, in 2004 and 2007, respectively. He received his D. Eng. (Electrical Engineering) from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), in 2011. Currently, he works at Pibulsongkram Rajabhat University in the faculty of Industrial Technology. His research interests include power electronics, robust control and Mechatronics.  He has published his research work in the ISI journals and international conference proceedings. He has also been a special session chair in the ASIAPES 2013. 

Narong Aphiratsakun received the B.Eng (Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering from Assumption University, (ABAC), Thailand, in 2001, M.Eng in Power Electronics Engineering from Assumption University, (ABAC), Thailand, in 2004. He received his Ph. D Degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, in 2010. Currently, he works at Assumption University in the department of Mechatronics Engineering. Abstract :
     Mechatronics has emerged as one of the new and exciting fields on the engineering landscape which includes several parts of traditional engineering fields and requiring a broader approach to the design of systems. This special session aims to provide a multidisciplinary forum for researchers to discuss state-of-the-art topics in mechatronics, robotics, and industry-related applications. All related works in such areas will be considered in this session. The topics will include (but not limited to): mechatronics, robotics and industrial automation, mobile robot and robot manipulator systems, robot platform development, medical robotics, intelligent navigation for autonomous systems, multi-robot systems, telerobotics, machine vision, artificial intelligence, sensors and applications, embedded systems, information technology applied to manufacturing and etc. Prospective authors are invited to submit original manuscripts to this session through the conference submission system.

Panus Nattharith is a lecturer at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Naresuan University, Thailand. He received his B. Eng degree in Electrical Engineering from Chiang Mai University in 2000 and received the M. Eng degree in Mechatronics from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in 2002. He completed his Ph.D. from school of Mechanical and Systems Engineering, Newcastle University, UK, in 2011. Currently, he conducts his research in robotics and mechatronics areas, mostly focusing on mobile robot navigation techniques.
